Year 5 - MP Ian Swales

The children in Year 5 are enjoying learning about the history of ironstone mining in the local area.  Recently, we discovered a request for planning permission had been submitted to erect a fence that would block access to the Eston Hills.

In Literacy, the children have been writing letters of objection to the planning department at Redcar and Cleveland Council.  Ian Swales, our local MP, visited us in school and was keen to listen to our concerns.  He has promised to pass on a petition to the House of Commons.

Year 4 are currently researching life in Tudor times and learning all about the different monarchs, homes, food, drink and medicines of the time. We have a had our Tudor day which included a drama based workshop. The children have written a diary in the role of a Tudor doctor, a factual report on Tudors and here are some examples of a story they have written with a historical setting. Also, we are looking at Habitats in Science and here are some examples of the children's homework where they created a 3D garden using natural resources.

Year 3 - Mackenzie Thorpe

The Y3 children have been studying the work of local artist Mackenzie Thorpe who depicted scenes of Australia in pastels in honour of his hero, Captain Cook. We created our own pictures in Mackenzie's style, using pastels, then made frames decorated with aboriginal dot style pictures to put them in. We think the children's work work is amazing!

Year 2 have been looking at characters in stories and films. We have been trying to describe them using adventurous word choices. In our writing we think about the characters' description, what they do, their personality and our feelings towards them. These descriptions are taken from the book George and the Dragon.
